School Seminars
The N.E.O.A. regularly provides seminars for both students and parents at both the middle and high school levels. Our mission statement is “Prevention Through Education.”
We believe that young people, when presented with the facts about what will happen if they get caught and the true consequences of drug abuse, will make better decisions about their use. This year our focus is on the abuse of pharmaceutical abuse. The latest Monitoring the Future study showed a drop of 19% (or 700,000 teens) in teenage drug use during the past six years due to drug education. We’re proud to be part of that!

Some of the topics we cover in our seminars with students include:
-
Consequences of Saying Yes!
-
The Internet Lies
-
Never Trust Anyone When It Comes to Drugs
-
Athletes & Celebrities on Drugs
-
Drugs That Can Kill You
-
Risks of Drug Use
Parents are taught the signs and personality changes related to drug experimentation. They are also shown how teens hide the drugs.
Among the subjects we discuss with parents are:
-
Behavioral Changes in Students
-
Indicators of Drug Use
-
MySpace, Facebook & Other Internet Sites
-
Drugs in the Home
-
Recent Trends
-
How Drugs are Marketed to Teens

N.E.O.A. Secretary Lieutenant Duane Tompkins (ret.) demonstrates at a seminar how some over-the-counter drugs are used for making illegal drugs.
